CALLCONNECT UNWRAPS ‘SANTA SUNDAYS’ SCHEME

Lincolnshire County Council’s CallConnect rural bus service is launching a new service in December.

For the first time ever, the demand-responsive service will be operating each Sunday in December up to Christmas Day.

That’s four Sundays (starting December 1, 2013) on which CallConnect passengers can travel to festive events throughout the area, do their Christmas shopping or see friends and family members in the run-up to the big day.

The ‘Santa Sundays’ initiative will bring a further seasonal boost to the service which recently announced that calls and emails to its Lincoln-based Booking Centre had risen by nearly 2,000 per month throughout the summer period compared to last year.

CallConnect Manager Paul Sanders said: “For many people, December is one of the busiest months of the year and we wanted to help our customers get into the Christmas spirit by helping them to shop, see relative and friends, and to access a whole range of festive fun from seasonal fairs and markets to carol services and pantomimes.”

Mr Sanders added: “In our customer surveys we are regularly asked to operate on more days in December and this year we are delighted that we will be able to offer a Saturday service on each Sunday up to Christmas Day.

"We are pleased to launch this addition to CallConnect which is a vital service to our rural communities and market towns. After more than ten years of rising passenger numbers and national acclaim, CallConnect is always on the lookout for new ways to help customers meet their travel needs, especially in rural or remote communities throughout Lincolnshire. I hope this addition to CallConnect will support individuals, businesses and communities organising Christmas events."
The Sunday service will operate from 9.30am to 5.30pm and bookings can be taken from Saturday 23rd November. To find out more about CallConnect or the ‘Santa Sundays’ scheme, contact the Booking Centre on 0845 234 3344 or 0845 263 8153 for WellandCallConnect from 9.30am to 4.30pm.

What is a Community Car Scheme?

Community Car Schemes are one of the most flexible forms of community transport and make a significant contribution to the movement of mainly elderly residents in rural locations across Lincolnshire. Community car drivers are all volunteers providing transport in their own cars for a small contribution towards the running costs. Journeys are organised by a Co-ordinator and available to anyone unable to access public transport. The volunteer driver picks up the client/passenger from their home, takes them to their pre-booked destination and brings them back home. The driver will wait with the passenger if required.

There are approximately 22 community car schemes across Lincolnshire; all are independent charitable, non-profit-making groups.
